My approach uses strategy and principles to guide my consulting work. I work with my clients to understand their situation – and what success would look like to them.

STRATEGY: The Components of Success

In achieving results, I have been guided the following “power of three.”

VISION

A powerful vision is needed to guide a project to success and build support for its implementation. Dream big about your dream park.

RESOURCES

Almost every vision needs resources including public support and engagement, talent and innovation, leadership and advocacy, and often both public and private funding. But resources without the right tools will not be effectively spent.

TOOLS

Effective – and often customized – tools are needed to put resources to work, especially in a partnership project.  Legal, policy, and administrative barriers and obstacles can be the death knell of the most compelling of vision and most abundance of resources.

SUCCESS

With a bold vision, diverse resources, and effective tools, you can achieve success and make your dream park, public land, project, program, or restoration effort a reality.

PRINCIPLES: Your Vision and Needs

As a consultant, my clients are at the forefront. I bring the following principles to my consulting practice.

Your vision and your needs will be my priority and honor. I deeply respect leaders, staff, and volunteers engaged in public service – and am passionate about the value of public lands and civic places to our urban, state, national, and world community. I will provide respectful assessments and honest feedback about how to move your vision forward.

I enjoy working at any scale and with a variety of people. I can work at many levels – whether the vision, the resources, or the toolbox. I am honored to work with leaders, staff, board members, public officials, philanthropic organizations, grassroots organizers, business executives, and civic innovators. I believe that trust, collegiality, teamwork, and a good sense of humor are the building blocks to success.

I value tangible results. While I genuinely enjoy conceptual thinking, I really appreciate the value of getting things done – and seeing tangible progress in achieving a vision, a partnership, or a campaign. I will help you and your stakeholders believe in your collective ability to confidently say, “let’s do this.” I will work to deliver results you can see as real.

I am motivated by the boldest of visions as well as the importance of details. Throughout my career, I have helped lead bold projects that almost seemed impossible in their scale and moving parts, including converting the oldest continuously operated military post in America – the Presidio – into a thriving, innovative, and public serving national park.  Yet, inevitably, even a bold vision is composed of many details of brand, implementation, partnership, and execution. I will work to ensure that the boldest visions have a strong foundation for success.
